Character Name; Oberyn Martell
Canon; A Song of Ice and Fire (Character History)
Canon Point; Post-death
Age; Mid 40s
House; Freya
Power; Charm
Personality;
Oberyn is known for being fiery and rash in canon, and everyone agrees that Oberyn is not a man to cross for whatever reason. In fact, he has a sort of notoriety for being hot-headed and passionate. This prince of Dorne is very good at holding grudges, which I will explain further below. He isn't one to hold his tongue or consider political correctness when it comes to fixing errors or pointing out flaws, much to the Lannisters dismay when he used to sit on the Small Council. He is harsh with his words when it comes to telling the truth, which he will almost always certainly tell. While he definitely does act on impulse, most, if not all, of his impulses are fueled by a desire to accomplish something. Mediocrity does not sit well with Oberyn.
He is also a very lusty man, which is hardly secret. It's rumored that Oberyn is bisexual and sleeps with anyone he likes. While he does keep a paramour and has had four daughters with her, it's certainly not out of his territory to still have sex with anyone else. It's also implied to a point that he and his paramour are willing to try anything sexually, so he's basically down to fuck whenever, however, as long as everyone is into it.
Oberyn is also extremely shrewd, and, by the same token, very secretive when necessary. Out of his anger for his sister's rape and murder, and her children's death, Oberyn and his brother Doran had planned for many years in secret to overthrow the Baratheon line and to utterly destroy the Lannister family from the inside out. The Lannisters are included in his wrath because it was The Mountain, a man in service to the Lannisters and the Baratheons (whom were married), who committed these unforgivable acts against his sister and her children. Impulsive he may be, but Oberyn takes after his brother in some ways through his tactical prowess. It may be easy to say that Oberyn is the brawn of the Martell brothers, while Doran, his older brother, is the brains. He is a man of action, loathe to wait for the opportune moment unless there is a greater reward to be had.
His intellect is its own force to be reckoned with. In canon, to be a maester requires a certain gift for adaptiveness and a willingness to learn a variety of difficult subjects and arts. A new link is forged in a maester's chain to show what a trainee has learned and how he is progressing in his skills. Oberyn had actually forged a few links on his own chain before decided that becoming a maester was far too boring and left the Citadel. This shows that not only does he have the intellect to learn nearly anything he sets his mind to, he also gets bored easily and would rather move onto something else. He doesn't like to linger for too long unless it holds his interest.
Oberyn is also a natural leader and lives for the fight. He formed his own mercenary company after having been with the Second Sons, a very well-known mercenary company, for some time. His leadership skills not only work in his favor with his mercenary company, but with his own daughters, as they staunchly rally around him not only out of love for their father, but for his ideals and capacity to lead. Part of this is owed to his unofficial exile, but he made the most of this time by traveling the world and giving himself a far better life than likely anyone else in exile would have bothered to make. It can be said that Oberyn can make the very best out of nearly any situation and twist it into something that serves him or his family's best interests.
Oberyn keeps his family very close, as witnessed by the fact that he has doggedly pursued vengeance upon the death of his sister. It's highly unusual for any nobleman to claim bastards, but Oberyn has claimed eight in total, his oldest four from four different women, and his youngest four from his current paramour. While it's never explicitly stated, it's not unlikely that it was Oberyn who trained his four oldest in different arts of war, be it combat like Obara or poisons like Tyene. He looked after all of his daughters like true heirs, even allowing them to live in the palace. He may have come and gone, but he never left behind his family. His four oldest daughters continue to work in his name even after death because of the love he showed them.

Truth be told, Oberyn had little idea of what the afterlife truly held. There were the words, of course, written to comfort the dying who had a good life, or to damn those who had committed grave sins against the Seven. Perhaps somewhere he had found himself among those who held a damnable life.
But to find himself in a land that claimed to be of gods, that would certainly be a very new experience for him. The faceless maids and others informed him of his his inability to leave, which hardly bothered him. Oberyn had nowhere to go now.
He shook his head, running a hand through his hair. The shape of his head was intact.
Curious.
All of those around him went about with stern expressions and some sort of intent. None answered his questions, much to his annoyance, but he'd find his answers somehow. With his spear pointed downwards, he moved forward... or what they allowed him to move at least.
